Volume equalized constitutive equations for foamed polymer solutions

چکیده

In order to develop a constitutive equation for foamed polymer solutions their flow behavior was investigated in a large-scale vertical tube. Starting from theoretical considerations, two new constitutive equations are proposed. A new variable+the specif;c t&me expansion mti+is introduced to characterize the relative gas content of the foam. With the new variable the proposed constitutive equations take simple forms and obey the principle of volume equalizing, i.e., the corresponding Reynolds numbers possess a certain invariance property. The proposed models are fitted to the experimental data. The principle of volume equalizing is checked in light of the current knowledge on foam flow behavior.

Modeling the Transport and Volumetric Properties of Solutions Containing Polymer and Electrolyte with New Model

A new theoretical model based on the local composition concept (TNRF-mNRTL model) was proposed to express the short-range contribution of the excess Gibbs energy for the solutions containing polymer and electrolyte. This contribution of interaction along with the long-range contribution of interaction (Pitzer-Debye-Hückel equation), configurational entropy of mixing (Flory-Huggins relation)...

Constitutive equations for a polymer fluid based on the concept of non-affine networks

Constitutive equations are developed for a polymer fluid, which is treated as a permanent network of strands bridged by junctions. The junctions are assumed to slide with respect to their reference positions under loading. Governing equations are derived by using the laws of thermodynamics under the assumption that the vorticity tensor for the flow of junctions is proportional to that for macro...

Parametric study of a viscoelastic RANS turbulence model in the fully developed channel flow

One of the newest of viscoelastic RANS turbulence models for drag reducing channel flow with polymer additives is studied in different flow and rheological properties. In this model, finitely extensible nonlinear elastic-Peterlin (FENE-P) constitutive model is used to describe the viscoelastic effect of polymer solution and turbulence model is developed in the k-ϵ-(ν^2 ) ̅-f framework. The geome...

Theoretical modeling of microstructured liquids: a simple thermodynamic approach

A new method is presented for accounting for microstructural features of flowing complex fluids at the level of mesoscopic, or coarse-grained, models by ensuring compatibility with macroscopic and continuum thermodynamics and classical transport phenomena. In this method, the microscopic state of the liquid is described by variables that are local expectation values of microscopic features. The...

Polymer flexibility and turbulent drag reduction.

Polymer-induced drag reduction is the phenomenon by which the friction factor of a turbulent flow is reduced by the addition of small amounts of high-molecular-weight linear polymers, which conformation in solution at rest can vary between randomly coiled and rodlike. It is well known that drag reduction is positively correlated to viscous stresses, which are generated by extended polymers. Rod...
